Up close

Real hardwood for anyone who wants long, wide planks that look like a magazine-worthy floor in living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms. Saint Johns is a medium brown with a gray undertone and the brushed grain highlighted in a lighter tone: it hides dust and daily wear very well. French white oak is rich in tannins, and the manufacturer fumes it to develop the color without a surface stain, so the tone runs through the wood fiber and doesn't look painted. 7-1/2" planks up to 7' 2-1/2" long: fewer visible seams. It installs on any level of the house, nailed, stapled, glued or floated; per the manufacturer, it is not recommended for bathrooms or very humid areas. With hardwood, what decides how long the floor lasts is what you can't see: moisture in the slab. That's why we check the slab before we install.
