Up close
Classic-wood-look porcelain tile for anyone who wants the warmth of a plank floor throughout the house, including bathrooms and laundry rooms, without the upkeep of wood. Fir is a light natural wood with knots and cracks, with a rustic, country feel. Its shade variation is slight (V2), so the floor looks even and orderly. The 8" × 36" plank is a practical size that adapts well to floors with small irregularities. Per the manufacturer, it is rated for interior wet areas (IW). With 12" × 24" porcelain, what decides whether a tile sounds hollow or cracks is what's underneath: the leveling of the slab and the coverage of the thinset. That's why we check the slab before we install.
