Up close
Wood-look porcelain tile for anyone who wants the warmth of a wide-plank floor without worrying about water, throughout the house, including bathrooms and kitchens. White is a very light whitewashed wood, bright and Nordic. The 10" × 60" planks, 10 mm thick, are large and rectified, with thin grout lines, so the floor reads as wood, not tile. Its variation is slight (V2): the planks look alike and the floor looks orderly. Per the manufacturer, it is rated for interior wet areas (IW+); unlike wood, it isn't affected by moisture. With 12" × 24" porcelain, what decides whether a tile sounds hollow or cracks is what's underneath: the leveling of the slab and the coverage of the thinset. That's why we check the slab before we install.
