Up close
Luxury vinyl in extra-wide planks for anyone who wants a wood look throughout the house without worrying about water or pets. Very light whitewashed oak: a Scandinavian look that visually enlarges small spaces. It comes in two formats: the standard, 9" × 60" and 10 mm, and the long format, 9" × 72" and 12 mm, with a thicker wear layer (30 mil) and more years of commercial warranty. Its built-in natural cork backing makes it more comfortable and quieter than ordinary vinyl, and the texture follows the grain pattern, so it looks and feels like wood. Per the manufacturer, it is waterproof and pet-proof, and it resists scratches and stains: it works in kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms. Being waterproof on top does not fix an uneven or damp subfloor. Checking the slab and the leveling before we install is what prevents gaps opening between planks or boards that squeak.
