Up close

Colorful glazed-clay-look porcelain tile for anyone who wants a floor, wall or backsplash with handcrafted personality. Burnt Umber is a reddish brown like fired clay, warm and rustic. What sets it apart are the formats: 2×6, 2.5×12, 6×6 and cross and star pieces that combine into Moroccan-style patterns. Unlike most decorative tiles, it is porcelain rated for floors. Per the manufacturer, it is rated for interior wet areas (IW+). With 12" × 24" porcelain, what decides whether a tile sounds hollow or cracks is what's underneath: the leveling of the slab and the coverage of the thinset. That's why we check the slab before we install.
